Great idea! I added your requested feature in version 2.3. After updating to version 2.3 go to Settings -> Advanced and turn on the “Menu bar item toggles desktop” checkbox. Thanks for your feedback!

I just would like that I could turn it on/off with left click and show the menu with right click, so it acted like a switch but the shortcut keys are useful as well! Definitely recommended

This is one of those apps that doesn’t do a lot, but what it does it does well. It’s nice to be able to look at my desktop pictures without all the clutter, but know that I have quick access to my desktop icons when needed.

Other desk-top hiders also hide my screensaver and desktop graphics.
This leaves them visible. It really does just what I want it to do.
