Bing and DuckDuckGo continue to display websites offering pirated versions of File Cabinet Pro in their search results. At the same time, they refuse—or otherwise fail—to index AppTyrant.com, the official website of the company that created File Cabinet Pro.

The result is unacceptable: people searching for File Cabinet Pro on Bing or DuckDuckGo may find unauthorized copies of the app while being unable to find its legitimate developer and official source.

AppTyrant.com Is the official website for File Cabinet Pro (File Cabinet Pro is also available on the Mac App Store and sometimes the app is available on third party websites we partner with in promotional offers).

Despite our efforts to make this website accessible and compliant with standard indexing practices, Bing has not included AppTyrant.com in its results in months. DuckDuckGo, due to its reliance on Bing for search results, also fails to display the site properly while continuing to show third-party pages distributing unauthorized copies of File Cabinet Pro.

This is not simply a ranking disagreement. The official source for File Cabinet Pro is being excluded while piracy remains visible.

Pirated Versions of File Cabinet Pro Remain Easy to Find

Searches on Bing and DuckDuckGo continue to surface pages promoting cracked, repackaged, or otherwise unauthorized versions of File Cabinet Pro.

Those downloads are not legitimate alternatives. They may be outdated, modified, bundled with unwanted software, or infected with malicious code.

Meanwhile, the websites distributing those copies benefit from traffic generated by searches for a product they did not create.

Bing and DuckDuckGo are making it easier to find unauthorized versions of File Cabinet Pro than the company responsible for developing it.

This Creates a User-Safety Problem

By displaying piracy sites while excluding AppTyrant.com, Bing and DuckDuckGo make it harder for users to determine which source for File Cabinet Pro is authentic.

The consequences are significant:

Users may download modified or malicious copies of File Cabinet Pro.

Piracy websites gain visibility and apparent credibility.

Customers may be unable to locate legitimate downloads and support.

AppTyrant loses traffic, sales, and control over the reputation of File Cabinet Pro.

Users receive a distorted impression of which website is authoritative.

Bing and DuckDuckGo should be directing people toward the original publisher of File Cabinet Pro, not giving greater visibility to websites distributing unauthorized copies.

We Have Tried to Resolve the Problem

We have attempted to address the indexing issue through the channels available to website owners. Earlier this year we noticed this problem and opened a support ticket in Bing Webmaster Tools. After several months Bing briefly reindexed AppTyrant.com, acknowledging that it was a mistake. AppTyrant.com has since been removed from Bing/DuckDuckGo search results again. Links to AppTyrant.com will not show up even if you type queries like “AppTyrant.com” “File Cabinet Pro for Mac” in the search bar on Bing and DuckDuckGo. We created a new support ticket in Bing Webmaster tools which was unceremoniously closed without any meaningful explanation.

DuckDuckGo search results prominently display a link to a fake File Cabinet Pro Github repository.

Website owners are regularly told to publish original content, maintain technically accessible websites, and demonstrate authority. AppTyrant.com is the original source for File Cabinet Pro, yet Bing and DuckDuckGo continue to omit it while displaying pages that prominently display links to pirated versions of File Cabinet Pro.

Automated systems can make mistakes. The real problem is the apparent lack of a meaningful process for correcting them.

Generic responses and unexplained indexing decisions do nothing to help a legitimate software publisher resolve a situation in which piracy sites are treated more favorably than the creator of File Cabinet Pro.

What Bing and DuckDuckGo Need to Do

We are not asking Bing or DuckDuckGo to guarantee a particular ranking.

We are asking them to review this situation, explain why AppTyrant.com is being excluded, and apply their standards consistently.

Bing and DuckDuckGo should:

Investigate why AppTyrant.com is not being indexed properly.

Identify any specific technical or policy issue affecting the site.

Provide a meaningful review process rather than an automated or generic response.

Review results displaying unauthorized copies of File Cabinet Pro.

Recognize AppTyrant.com as the official source when users search for File Cabinet Pro or AppTyrant.

These are reasonable expectations.

Bing and DuckDuckGo Should Do Better

For an independent software company, exclusion from Bing and DuckDuckGo can cause real harm. Customers depend on these services to locate legitimate websites, downloads, and support resources.

When Bing and DuckDuckGo display unauthorized distributors of File Cabinet Pro but refuse to index the original developer, they reward piracy and undermine the authority signals their results are supposed to reflect.

Bing and DuckDuckGo should help users find the company that created File Cabinet Pro—not make pirated copies easier to find than the legitimate source.
The post Bing and DuckDuckGo Show Pirated Copies of File Cabinet Pro but Refuse to Index AppTyrant.com first appeared on App Tyrant.
