File Cabinet has been released on the Mac App Store. As you may already know, we have been selling File Cabinet Pro here at AppTyrant dot com since late September. Before you purchase either version of the app, you should be aware of the differences between the Mac App Store version and the non-Mac App Store version.

The Mac App Store version is being sold at a lower price than the Pro version because the Pro version has more features. Mainly, File Cabinet Pro allows you to set up a folder in iCloud Drive, but File Cabinet on the Mac App Store does not support iCloud at all.

Update on January 10th, 2016: Starting in version 1.5, you can now change the local directory File Cabinet displays in both the Mac App Store version and the Pro version. The paragraph below no longer is true.

Also, File Cabinet Pro’s local folder lives inside your Documents folder on your Mac, while File Cabinet’s local folder lives within a specialized Documents folder that OS X gives sandboxed apps by default. The Documents folder OS X gives Sandboxed apps by default is not user-facing in the Finder (it is within ~/Library/Containers/com.Writes-for-All-Inc.Junk.Drawer/Data/Documents/File Cabinet). However, you can easily navigate to the Documents folder in the Mac App Store version by right-clicking on a file in File Cabinet’s user-interface and selecting “Show In Finder” in the pop up menu.

Finally, File Cabinet Pro receives updates faster than the Mac App Store version because we do not have to wait for App Store approval.

You may still wish to purchase the Mac App Store version instead of the Pro version for the following reasons:
1) You don’t plan on using iCloud Drive.
2) You like updating your software through the Mac App Store.
3) The Mac App Store version is cheaper and you want to save some bucks.

The chart below highlights the main differences between File Cabinet Pro and File Cabinet.

Visual Attributed String version 1.5 has been pushed to the Mac App Store. In this update, two new features have been added to the application:

1) iCloud Support. Visual Attributed String now has a container in your iCloud Drive folder (you can of course, disable this feature if you don’t want to use it).

2) Quicklook. Visual Attributed String documents now work with Quicklook. Instead of seeing the same document icon, you can get a visual representation of your document in Finder.

Word Counter Pro Released on the Mac App Store

Word Counter Pro is a simple and powerful application for writers. With Word Counter Pro you can view statistics of your writing such as Word count, Character count, Sentence count, Line count, Paragraph count, and more.

Word Counter Pro allows you to view stats in four different ways:
1. You can type or paste text in the window.
2. You can drag and drop a supported text file to the window.
3. You can have Word Counter Pro watch a supported text file as you edit it in another application. When Word Counter Pro is watching a text file, a popover will appear in the menubar displaying stats that will be updated as you write.
4. Use the Word Counter Pro Action Extension. You can use the Word Counter Pro Action Extension to get stats of selected text in any text editing app that supports Action Extensions (like TextEdit).

Word Counter Pro also allows you to apply custom settings. Some of the custom settings you can specify include:
-Setting a custom page size for measuring Line count. For accuracy, Word Counter Pro calculates the Line count by measuring against a particular page size.
-Changing the left and right margin of the custom page size, which also will impact the Line count.
-Enforcing a minimum number of sentences required for Paragraph count. Most word processing software will incorrectly count titles and lines of text in headers as paragraphs, even though they are not part of the body of your document. Requiring a certain number of sentences per paragraph can result in a more accurate paragraph count, since dangling words are not counted as paragraphs.

Word Counter Pro supports the following file types:
-rtfd
-rtf
-txt
-docx
